Lime Technology is delighted to be the principal material supplier to Empyer Homes; the Empyer house design utilises the full benefits of Tradical® Hemcrete® and Lime Technology looks forward to continuing its close working relationship with Empyer Homes helping deliver exceptional standards and construction quality for the future.
Lime Technology has a passionate drive for sustainable buildings and has acted as a catalyst for innovations that can dramatically decrease the construction industry’s carbon footprint. Believing that many traditional raw materials hold the key to cost effective sustainable construction, Lime Technology has successfully developed a number of sustainable building products, based around traditional materials. One such product is Tradical® Hemcrete®, the thermal hemp-lime walling solution used in building an Empyer home.
The key drivers behind the low carbon Empyer Home are sustainability and affordability. To achieve this, dynamic thermal modelling was undertaken to prove the efficiencies of the building material Tradical® Hemcrete®.
An in-depth feasibility study was undertaken to assess various heating systems in order to produce a versatile, low carbon home with minimal heating bills. This affordable solution was achieved by utilising ‘off the shelf’ products combined with the Tradical® Hemcrete® structure to provide cutting edge building performance. Heating costs and energy usage are minimised through the use of an air source heat pump, supplying heat up to four times more efficiently than a conventional electrical heating system.
A heat recovery unit compliments the air source heat pump by reducing the heating requirement, utilising the heat in the stale exhaust air to pre-heat the incoming fresh air. This system works especially well when combined with the inherent air-tightness provided by the Tradical® Hemcrete® structure. This means ventilation losses, one of the main areas of heat loss in low energy housing, are kept to a minimum. Leading edge lighting standards were considered vital for each dwelling, both to minimise energy usage and for aesthetic reasons.
Energist UK was among the first to have teams pass the BRE Code for Sustainable Homes Assessor training course. Assessors at Energist UK worked with Empyer Homes to provide Code for Sustainable Homes pre-assessment reports. The reports reviewed the environmental impact of the properties and awarded credits based on their energy efficiency and sustainability. These credits were then used to provide an overall rating for the properties.
Energist UK is a leading Part L compliance specialist, and has built an
enviable reputation for delivering an unbeatable service, quick turnarounds, and, in particular, solutions.
